Otavio Cury was born in São Paulo in 1971 and graduated in Agronomy at the University of São Paulo in 1994. He lives and works in São Paulo. Otavio has been working as a documentary director since 2004. His films were shown internationally in festivals and institutions like HotDocs (Canadá), FID Marseille and FIAC (France), Visions du Réel (Switzerland), TATE Modern (UK), among others. In Brazil his films were shown in several TV channels as well as festivals.
In 2013, director Otavio Cury accompanied a group of nurses to Koxixinape, a remote Yanomami village. The Indians did not allow themselves to be filmed. How I photographed the Yanomami was born from this impossibility. The documentary investigates this frontier of contact between whites and Indians, dealing with image, health and shamanism.
